Are Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injections Expensive?

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injections (ICSI) increases the chances of a successful pregnancy through the  In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) process. ICSI is a laboratory procedure helping infertile couples due primarily to male factor infertlity. It is a form of micromanipulation involving the injection of a single sperm directly into the cytoplasm of a mature egg (oocyte) using a glass needle (pipette). If there is any problem with a sperm’s ability to fertilize the egg - either due to low sperm count or poor sperm quality - ICSI is the most common and accurate method for solving it.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) Explained

In conjunction with the IVF proce
dure, ICSI is the manual fertilization of an egg to successfully develop an embryo in vitro.  In order to accomplish this, a single sperm is injected directly into the center of the egg for fertilization.

ICSI Cost

World class fertility treatment centers, such as New Hope Fertility Center, combine the cost of ICSI in their IVF packages. For couples who use New Hope Fertility Center, there is no additional cost associated with the use of ICSI. The availability of ICSI has made it possible for men who previously would have been thought of as impotent because their sperm were too weak or too few to impregnate their wives through in vitro fertilization. This is no different from regular IVF with normal sperm. This technique is very cost-effective, and will give you the same high chance for getting pregnant as any couple with normal sperm.

Considering ICSI

While ICSI is useful, it is not necessary for IVF treatment.  Individuals who should consider ICSI include:

  • Couples where male factor infertility is an issue
  • Couples with a low fertilization rate during previous IVF cycles
