What Are The Usual In Vitro Success Rates

In vitro success rates are front and center in the minds of couples beginning their fertility journey.  After trying to get pregnant on their own without success, high in vitro success rates can help to assure couples that fertility treatment can help them to become parents.

SART, or the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, compiles statistics on IVF success rates for fertility clinics nationwide.  While reviewing success rates presented by SART, it is important to note that the success rates are based on traditional IVF protocols performed on women who were seen as being ideal candidates.

Traditional IVF

  • An average of 60 injections of fertility medication are required
  • There is a severe impact on the body
  • The risk of ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome (OHSS) is high
  • Five or more eggs are produced during the cycle
  • There is a high risk of multiple pregnancy
  • An average of 2.2 embryos are transferred per cycle
  • The live birth rate is 40.1% per 2.2 embryos transferred

There are other options for IVF fertility treatment that are more holistic and more comfortable for women.  New Hope Fertility Center, located in NYC, offers two holistic approaches to IVF:

Natural IVF

  • No fertility medication or fertility injections are done during a cycle
  • There is low impact on the body
  • There is no risk of OHSS
  • One egg is produced on average during a cycle
  • There is a low risk of multiple pregnancy
  • An average of 1.1 embryos are transferred per cycle

Minimal Stimulation IVF

  • Five or less injections of fertility medication are required
  • There is a gentle impact on the body
  • There is  a low risk of developing OHSS
  • Between three and five eggs are produced during the cycle
  • There is a low risk of multiple pregnancy
  • An average of 1.1 embryos are transferred per cycle

In order to compare success rates of holistic IVF protocols, the number of embryos transferred must be equalized.  The live birth rate for New Hope’s holistic IVF protocols for every 2.2 embryos transferred is 70.0%, significantly above the national average while using little to no fertility medication.
