Top 8 Tips on Getting Pregnant - Fertility Experts Share Their Advice

When you’ve been trying to conceive without success, the process can seem impossible.  Following the eight tips below from our fertility experts on how to get pregnant can help to increase the odds of starting the family you’ve been dreaming of.

Timing is Everything

2015-33

For men, timing isn’t as important.  Men’s bodies continually produce sperm, so they are fertile every day.  For women, the window is much smaller.  Once a woman ovulates, her egg is only able to survive for 24 hours unless it is fertilized.  Because of this, it is important to time intercourse with ovulation.  Charting your cycle or using ovulation predictor kits can help with this process.

Get Some Rest

With the fast pace of today’s society, many people do not get enough rest.  Unfortunately, this can decrease a person’s health, including their fertility.  Aim to get 8 hours of sleep a night.

Limit Alcohol

Alcohol has the potential to decrease fertility.  Limit alcoholic drinks while trying to conceive.  This is also good practice for when you become pregnant as there are no drinks allowed.

Reduce Stress

Starting a family can be stressful.  That very stress, can decrease your fertility.  Make sure to schedule time to relax and distress. Reading a book, taking a walk or talking with friends are all good ways of naturally relieving stress.

Choose Healthy Food

The food you eat has a direct effect on your fertility.  Incorporate nutrient rich foods like fruits and vegetables into your diet to give your body the energy boost it needs.

Communicate with Your Partner

Sometimes the stress and focus of trying to conceive can distance you from your partner and result in intimacy issues.  Make sure to keep the lines of communication open.  Chances are, your partner is experiencing similar emotions.  Talking through issues and maintaining your relationship is important for your mental and emotional wellbeing.

Lubricate Wisely  infertility-specialist

Check your lubricant to ensure it is sperm friendly.  Many lubricants contain spermicide, which can be detrimental to conception.

Lose Weight

Excess weight can negatively affect fertility in men and women.   Making better food choices and increasing exercise can help to shed extra pounds.
