Does Exercising Help Increase Fertility

Research regarding diet, exercise and fitness continually show that bettering overall health plays a large role in increasing fertility.   Follow the tips below to improve your health, thereby, increasing fertility naturally.

Exercise

At all weight levels, moderately exercising has shown to boost pregnancy rates.  Moderate exercise would be considered walking briskly for 30 minutes or taking an exercise class. It is important not to exercise too much. Professional and competitive athletes may find that their extreme exercise has a negative impact on their fertility.  If you are an extreme exerciser, and notice symptoms like the absence of your period, consider cutting back on exercise while trying to conceive.

Exercise also enhances diet plans. Dieting alone can actually decrease your metabolism as your body goes into starvation mode. By adding exercise, your body has to compensate and burn additional calories, creating the ideal environment for weight loss. Starting an exercise plan can be difficult, especially for those who live a sedentary lifestyle.  Investing in an activity tracker allows you to have a real time measurement of the number of calories you are burning.  Additionally, research has shown that individuals who monitor their activities lost three times the amount of weight as those who did not.

Reduce Stress

The process of fertility treatment can be stressful.  Unfortunately, that very stress may inhibit your fertility and decrease your chances of becoming pregnant.  First, make sure you are communicating with your partner.  Although they may be processing the situation differently, you are both on the journey together.  Second, join a support group.  Spending time with other people who are going through similar situations can provide support and allow you to see that you are not alone.  Third, make sure to take time to do things that you enjoy.

Sleep

Many people are unaware how large of an impact sleep deprivation has on health.  Not getting enough sleep negatively impacts hormone production which decreases fertility.  Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep a night in order to maximize your fertility.
