A Natural IVF vs A Standard IVF

Natural IVF is a holistic alternative to traditional in vitro fertilization protocols.  By focusing on a woman’s natural fertility, Natural IVF successfully treats infertility without the use of fertility medication.  This results in an experience that may be more comfortable and safer than traditional IVF treatment.  By fully understanding the difference between the natural and standard IVF protocols, women are better equipped to decide on a treatment protocol.

2015-20Located in NYC, New Hope Fertility Center is an industry leader in the field of natural and minimal stimulation IVF treatment.  The focus of their practice is to understand each woman’s unique medical needs.  By starting with a woman’s natural fertility, New Hope is able to artfully build treatment protocols that provide only the support she needs to become pregnant.  Their team avoids establishing standardized approaches as over medicating women only results in increased side effects and can have adverse health effects.  The New Hope team pioneered the Natural approach to IVF, which harvests and fertilizes the egg a woman produces naturally.

During a Natural IVF, a woman’s body is closely monitored through blood work and ultrasound.  This allows the medical team to know exactly where she is in her cycle.  At the appropriate time, immediately prior to ovulation, the egg is harvested and fertilized.  After monitoring and allowing the embryo to mature, the fertilized egg is transferred into the mother’s uterus.  There are several advantages to a natural protocol:

  • Patients avoid all of the side effects and discomfort associated with the use of fertility medication.
  • There is virtually no risk of developing OHSS, ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome, which can cause many complications.
  • The egg produced by a woman’s body naturally is healthiest and is most likely to result in pregnancy.
  • There is no need to wait between cycles.  Fertility medication can negatively affect the uterine lining which is necessary to carry a pregnancy.  During a natural cycle, the lining isn’t affected by medication, and therefore, many women can do a fresh embryo transfer.
