Traditional in vitro fertilization, or IVF, treatment uses fertility medication in order improve fertility. IVF can be used to address both male and female infertility issues and has been extremely successful in helping couples begin their families.
With traditional IVF treatment, fertility medication is given in large doses in order to stimulate a woman’s ovaries to produce large quantities of eggs. Those eggs are then fertilized in a laboratory setting and the resulting embryos can be transferred directly into the mother’s uterus or frozen for future use. With traditional IVF, the focus is the quantity as opposed to the quality of eggs.
In recent years, there has been a push for more holistic approaches to in vitro fertilization treatment. While couples have faith in the technology of harvesting, fertilizing, and transferring eggs, they are often uncomfortable with the amount of fertility medication used and the potential side effects. Minimal stimulation IVF protocols use little to no fertility medication and have a more gentle approach to fertility treatment.
New Hope Fertility Center is on the cutting edge of fertility care. As such, they offer two methods of minimal stimulation in vitro fertilization protocols to meet the needs of their clients.Minimal Stimulation IVF
Created by the fertility experts at New Hope, Mini-IVF™ uses small doses of fertility medication in order to gently stimulate a woman’s ovaries to produce between three and five high quality eggs. The focus with this treatment it to balance retrieving multiple eggs with the need for high quality eggs. Although traditional in vitro fertilization treatment often results in a high number of eggs, many are not suitable for fertilization. The high quality eggs found with Mini-IVF™ are suited for fertilization. By using significantly less fertility medication, there are significantly less side effects. Additionally, a gentler protocol virtually eliminates the likelihood of developing ovarian hyper activity syndrome or OHSS.
Natural IVF does not use any fertility medication to stimulate a woman’s ovaries. Instead, this protocol monitors a woman’s cycle in order to harvest and fertilize the one egg she produces naturally during a cycle. This protocol is ideal for woman who want to avoid fertility medication or who are unlikely to produce multiple eggs even with medication.
