How to Make Sure You're Getting the Vitamins You Need This Winter

Getting Enough Vitamins

Winter weather is prime cold and flu season. Because of this, many people take extra vitamin C in order to try and ramp up their immune systems. While vitamin C is beneficial, getting enough vitamins means more than just one vitamin. This guide created by our fertility experts at New Hope Fertility Center can help you to get all of the vitamins you need during winter months.

Important Winter Vitamins

Despite what many people think, vitamin C doesn’t stop a person from contracting a cold or flu. However, the helpful vitamin can decrease the symptoms of cold and flu. Additionally, vitamin C’s antioxidant properties helps the body to repair itself.

Iron is necessary for the body to make red blood cells, which are responsible for moving oxygen through the body. Without sufficient iron a person’s energy levels will drop and they can have difficulty thinking clearly.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is essential to the function of the body’s immune system. Additionally, vitamin E helps the body to repair itself. A person’s eyesight is also impacted by their levels of vitamin A, with adequate levels enhancing eyesight.

Vitamin E

Another antioxidant, vitamin E helps the body to repair itself and helps to protect cells against damage. Additionally, the vitamin is known to have cancer preventing properties.

Getting Enough Vitamins

Ideally, we would get all the vitamins we need through the food we eat. Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet complete with fruit and vegetables helps to achieve this goal and helps with fertility. Eating lean protein is also important for getting sufficient levels of iron. Despite this, many people have a difficult time getting enough vitamins on diet alone. In order to ensure you’re getting enough of the above vitamins, consider taking a multi-vitamin. Multi-vitamins are often formulated to the needs of a certain segment of the population. When selecting a multi-vitamin, be sure to read the label to ensure that it contains 100 percent of the vitamins above.
