How Do I Know if IUI of IVF is Right For Me?

The options for fertility treatment can seem overwhelming.  At New Hope Fertility Center, we aim to work with your natural fertility to achieve a healthy pregnancy.  Our more holistic approach may provide options for fertility care that you were not aware of.   After reviewing your fertility history and health status, our physicians will devise a customized fertility care plan to fit your unique needs.

Two commonly used fertility protocols are IUI and IVF:

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

IUI is also known as artificial insemination. Traditionally, IUI is attempted before In Vitro Fertilization is nyc-fertility-clinicconsidered.  During an IUI cycle:

  • Your cycle is monitored to track ovulation, either with or without the use of fertility medications.
  • Washed sperm is placed directly into the uterus with a small catheter to coincide with ovulation.

The IUI procedure is relatively painless, some patients compare the experience to a pap smear. The success rate with IUI has been recorded between six and twenty-six percent per cycle. Recent studies have found the success rate with IUI is similar to that of natural intercourse.  Because of this New Hope Fertility Center generally recommends patients proceed to In Vitro Fertilization if timed intercourse is not successful.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

IVF is a common fertility treatment.  It can be successful even when a woman’s fallopian tubes are blocked or scarred or if male infertility is a factor.  In a traditional protocol, a woman’s ovaries are stimulated with fertility medication to produce a high quantity of eggs. Once mature, the eggs are harvested, then fertilized in a lab.  The resulting embryos are then transferred directly into the uterus.

We offer two more holistic approaches:

  • Natural IVF – Uses no fertility medication, instead aims to harvest and fertilize the one egg your body produces naturally.
  • Mini IVF – Uses a limited amount of fertility medication to produce three to five high quality eggs for fertilization.
