What to Expect at Your Initial Fertility Consultation

Fertility treatment is a process with many steps, the first of which is the initial infertility consultation. It is during this meeting that you’ll meet and speak with one of New Hope Fertility Center's World Class Doctors. This initial appointment typically lasts between one and two hours and provides you with a wealth of information. Knowing what to expect during your initial consultaton will help to alleviate your anxiety, become relaxed and ready to work with your fertility team.

The Initial fertility Consultation

The initial consultation begins with entering the fertility center and speaking with a member at the front desk.

In many instances, patients will be provided paperwork beforehand to complete and bring to their first appointment. If not, you’ll be given an opportunity to complete paperwork that includes your health history, fertility history, and insurance information. Once this paperwork is done, you’ll be escorted to meet with your fertility doctor.

Your doctor will review the paperwork and ask questions about your medial history. They’ll also ask about your goals for treatment and what types of treatments you’re interested in. It is important to be honest and open during this process. Your answers will ultimately help your doctor to create your personalized treatment care plan, which incorporates your wants and needs. Use this opportunity to ask the doctor questions and to discuss your concerns about treatment.

Your initial consultation should be an open dialogue between yourself and your doctor.

The next step is the diagnostic testing process to help your fertility doctor uncover the root cause of your infertility. Sometimes, the diagnostic process will begin during the initial consultation. Common tests for women include blood work and ultrasounds to evaluate hormone levels and the female reproductive organs. Additional tests will occur during subsequent appointments and as needed based upon initial test results.
