Is a Natural IVF Safer?

New Hope Fertility Center has a holistic approach to fertility care.  We believe the best way to have a healthy baby is to work with your existing, natural fertility.  Because of this, we offer a natural approach to in vitro fertilization or IVF and recommend combining it with methods such as acupuncture and yoga to help ease your stress and achieve better outcomes.

Natural IVF is a drug free treatment plan.  Natural IVF can be safer than other IVF protocols as there is no use of fertility medication and, therefore, no side effects.  Natural IVF significantly decreases or eliminates the risk of:

  • Discomfort due to producing a large number of eggstop-fertility-nyc
  • Pain at the injection site for injectable medication
  • Ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome (OHSS)
  • Multiple pregnancy
  • Side effects from fertility medication

Natural IVF works by retrieving the one egg your body produces naturally.  Many times occurring over two cycles the treatment plan is as follows:

Cycle One

  • You are constantly monitored through blood work and ultrasound
  • Just before you would ovulate, the egg you produced naturally is harvested
  • The retrieved egg is fertilized in our lab, using your partner’s or donor sperm
  • The embryo is frozen by vitrification, a method of flash freezing that virtually eliminates the possibility of damage due to ice crystals.  This method significantly increases the success rate of thawing embryos.

Cycle Two

  • You are constantly monitored through blood work and ultrasound
  • Once your body has reached the appropriate part of your cycle, the embryo is thawed and implanted directly into your uterus.
  • A pregnancy test is performed

This treatment is a good choice for women who want to avoid fertility medication and the associated side effects.  It may also be recommended for women who are not likely to respond to fertility medication.
