Tips For Managing Your Stress and Anxiety During Your Pregnancy

Tips For Managing Your Stress and Anxiety During Your Pregnancy

Learning that you’re pregnant is one of the happiest moments of your life.  All of the hard work that you put into starting a family has finally paid off.  Some women are surprised to find that they are anxious or depressed after learning they are pregnant.  If you find yourself in this situation, you are not alone.  There are some things you can do to manage your stress and anxiety.

2015-18Take Time to Rest

While getting sufficient sleep is important to your overall health, it is even more important during pregnancy. Listen to your body and if you are feeling tired you should get some rest.  There’s nothing wrong with taking a nap or going to bed earlier than usual to make sure you’re getting enough rest.  Being well rested is good for you and your baby.

Share Your Feelings

If you’re feeling stressed and anxious, it is important to talk about your feelings.  You can talk with your spouse, midwife, doctor, or someone else you can trust.  Talking through your worries and concerns can help alleviate your stress.  You may find pregnancy classes or support groups are also good places to talk about how you’re feeling.

Eat Well

Despite the common adage of pregnant women “eating for two,” it is not necessary to double your food intake.  While you will need to eat more calories, be sure to add healthy options such as whole grains, lean meats, fruits, and vegetables.  Eating well balanced meals can improve your mood, your health, and help to provide the ideal environment for your baby’s growth.

Plan for the Baby

Getting ready for you baby’s arrival can help alleviate stress.  It’s common to feel as though you’re not ready for the baby.  To help combat this, outline what you need for the baby’s arrival and determine your plan for getting those items.  Having a plan can decrease your stress levels.
