Can I Take Folic Acid Supplements During IVF Treatment?

Posted by New Hope Fertility Center

IVF treatment often requires medication that encourages the body to produce more eggs. Additionally, women undergoing fertility treatment are strongly encouraged to take a prenatal vitamin as they undergo treatment. Prenatal vitamins are created to provide a pregnant woman with the additional vitamins and minerals her body needs during pregnancy. Among these are a folic acid supplement. Folic acid is essential during early pregnancy in order to avoid certain birth defects. Additionally, research is increasingly showing that folic acid supplements may increase success rates during IVF treatment.

Can Positive Thinking Help Fertility?

Posted by NHFC

positive thinking, fertility

With all of the ways to increase fertility, it is up to you to decide which is the more viable solution. Between pills, exercises, and special diets, did you ever consider the power of your own mind? Although it may sound like a holistic method of helping yourself become pregnant, the mind can do far more than what many may realize. A wide range of ailments have been cured by those who simply "wished it away."

Stress

One of the detrimental effects of infertility has been documented as being a result of depression or great amounts of stress. In fact, high stress levels can also cause premature birth. The power of the mind doesn't mean that you'll bend spoons or hurl fireballs around the room. You can use the power of positive thinking to reduce your level of stress or improve your mood in order to help your body perform naturally. While this could include meditation, the key to allowing your mind to help you is by relaxing and flushing out negative thoughts. Call it purging negative energy, if you will, but it's all the same. You need to eliminate doubt, anger, frustration, and other negative feelings that sneak their way into your thoughts.

Positively Everyone

Positive thinking can be performed by anyone in order to inspire a variety of health improvement, including fertility. Some of us are naturally predisposed to being cheerful while others seemingly have to work at the task. At any rate, more than fertility can be improved by keeping a more positive frame of mind. Like the saying goes, "Positive things happen to positive people." Have you ever met someone who was completely successful in anything they attempted? Don't these people seem more cheerful than the average Joe? Were they cheerful before the success or was it a product of being positive?

Roots of the Problem

You don't have to change your views on religion in order to be more positive in your life. Depression, anger, and frustration can happen to anyone regardless of his or her faith. If your physical stress limits are too great for your body to be fertile, then you need to find a method to improve the situation. Instead of succumbing to these emotions, focus on the problem that caused them and eliminate the circumstance. Many people make life far harder than it has to be simply because of motivational issues that prevent them from handling the problem head on.

Drama Free Diet

You don't have to practice a Zen way of life in order to think positive. Although meditation and breathing exercises greatly benefit your need to eliminate the stress in your life to promote fertility, you can practice other ways of relaxing without adding chemicals to your daily routine. Simply not exposing yourself to situations that could become ultra-dramatic would improve your daily functionality.

While there is nothing wrong with concentrating on making yourself fertile, keeping an open mind about positive thinking can make an impact in all aspects of your life. Eliminate your causes for stress and practice a more upbeat routine while trying to encourage yourself for greatness. You don't have to be conceited to have confidence, which is a benefit to thinking positively about yourself and your world.

Reigniting Your Fire After Infertility

Posted by NHFC

fertility and summer

Summer offers us many perks that we look forward to all year: longer days, more ripe fruits at the local market, and more time committed to "cooling off."  In traditional Chinese medicine, Summer can actually offer guidance to those of you struggling with infertility.  With the warmth this season brings, why not take advantage of the seasons natural flow by committing to your own growth and happiness this year?

Dealing with infertility can be isolating. As you witness friends have children without issue and dodge the inevitable "baby question" at family gatherings, you might find yourself retreating from social activities.  Summer's energy, however, encourages companionship.  With blooms and berries full and abundant, it's almost as if the season begs us to come out and enjoy!

Below are a few tips, several borrowed from traditional Eastern Medicine, regarding how to let Summer guide you this year:

  1. Water, water, water.  Associated with the Fire element, Summer's heat must be balanced with water. Staying hydrated ensures we're staying focused on what's really important -- our own health -- and replenishing what we lose through sweat.

  2. Eat fruit.   In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the Summer season is also the season of heart and digestive health (specifically the small intestine).  Fruits like peaches, strawberries and tomatos are packed with nutrients that are heart healthy and contain fiber, helping clean out the small intestine.

  3. Commit to "happy-making" activities.  The heart, often linked to joy, is also a focus of Summer, according to TCM.  Be gentle with yourself during your struggle with infertility and make sure to commit to some of those favorite activities you may have ditched during previous seasons.  Go for a swim, take a hike, or knit on the front porch.  Whatever makes you happy deserves more attention this season!

  4. Consider activities centered around breathing.  Since Summer is represented by Fire, an element that relies on air, Yoga, meditation and other practices that focus on breathing can help you center yourself when infertility related stress takes hold.

  5. Have fun!  If you're dealing with infertility, there's no better time than Summer to truly nourish yourself!  The longer days award us with more time to enjoy outdoor activities and time with loved ones at the end of the day, take advantage.
