Want to Increase Your Chances of Conceiving? - Ways to Reduce Work Stress

Managing stress is a crucial part of the fertility treatment process.  Stress in one area of your life can easily spill into another.  Compounding stress is a real issue while trying to conceive. Unfortunately, these high levels of stress can interfere with your reproductive system.  Therefore, to increase your chances of conceiving, it is important to reduce stress.  One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to reduce your stress levels at work.  While some stress from work is normal, excessive stress can negatively impact several aspects of your health.

There are several things that you can do to decrease work stress:

Recognize When You’re Becoming Stressedcouple-in-grass

The first step to combating work stress is to become aware of when stress happens.  There are some warning signs to help you recognize when things are becoming stressful or when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

  • Being irritable
  • Feeling anxious
  • Having difficulty sleeping
  • Being unable to concentrate
  • Having headaches
  • Using drugs or alcohol as a coping mechanism

Experiencing any of these symptoms is an indication that you need to address your stress levels from work.

Take Care of Yourself

One of the simplest ways to combat stress is to continue making yourself a priority, even during busy times at work.  This includes:

  • Getting regular exercise on a daily basis.  A simple fifteen minute walk can help you to burn off anxious energy, organize your thoughts, and relax both your mind and body.  Using a few minutes away from your desk is ideal.  Outside of work, aim to get 30 minutes of aerobic exercise per day.
  • Communicating openly with a friend or family member.  Talking about what’s stressing you out at work with a friend or family member has two key benefits.  You’ll feel better by giving a voice to your concerns.  Additionally, your confidant may have suggestions on ways to deal with your work stress.
  • Getting enough sleep.  It’s easy to skimp on sleep while stressed.  This is a mistake.  Being sleep deprived increases stress and makes it harder to deal with complicated situations.
